Neat

Will sent over the concept art for the character Victor. One of the busts is basic black and white, the other Will coloured in Photoshop. The process is pretty fun.

I think we're one drawing away from having the character nailed.

As far as the writing, I outlined the first chapter last night and hope to finish the second tonight. It's interesting with writing that no matter how many times you write the same story -- whether through drafting or because you destroyed an old copy of your complete manuscript -- you always feel compelled to change something. You always see something that you can make more interesting or some area wherein you can tell you just got lazy the last time around. Rewriting pieces is a good excersize, even when it's because you have no choice.

Anyway, I need to get working.

Yesterday's meeting went pretty well. The artist's name is Will Toro. While he is not a proefessional, he did do a little comic work back in Puerto Rico. Will made some new concept sketches while we worked out the details of some of the characters. Things are looking pretty good.

This is the farthest I've gotten with any of the artist with whom i've attempted to work.

Yes, that is correct. I never even got to the concept art stage with those guys.

The plan, as far as the writing goes, is to script five pages a day. I'll send them over to Will once we've got all the details worked out with the aesthetics of the characters, and he'll start doing the page work as he has time. I originally had a complete film script written for this story, but that was destroyed during my move back to the Cleveland area from Brooklyn, New York. I have changed several things from the original story, but it's not like I've got to make this one up from scratch. It shouldn't be much of a strain.

The final story could be anywhere between 150 and 200 pages. We will probably need to find a colourist once we have a few dozens pages inked, as Will's experience with photoshop is limited.

Here are some of the sketches Will flew through as we talked at Caribou in Rocky River:

Will will be sending me a finished, inked bust of Victor, the character in the headshots. I'll upload that when i get it.

Now, I have to get writing.

Showing promise...

This is going to be where I talk to a cyberwall about my fledgeling comic novel writing project. The first piece of news to share is that, after years of searching and being given the run-around, I have found an artist. He seems interested and excited about working on the project, and I look forward to getting started.

Here are some concept sketches for a couple of the characters:

We'll be having our first in-person meeting tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully, I'll have more concept art to share at that time.

Later, 'til then.
